A time for...

The rich and poor have it in common, we've read books about it and the Box Office has seen countless movies premiered about it. No matter how you feel about it or toward it, TIME is a construct we are all bound to...or that we have the privelage of being in.

Are you making time count?

In high school (you know, Affies) we were tought that we shouldn't count the days, but make the days count. Now as frustrating as it may have sounded on the cold floors of a school hall all those years back, it somehow sunk in. Lucky it did... because I only now understand the value of that statement...and probably will do so in increasing increments as time continues to pass. They say on people's death beds they mostly regret the things they didn't do rather than what they did. I can't imagine someone saying, "I'm so glad I didn't sing in front of an entire crowd of people that one time in college" or "Good thing I didn't jump in the lake on that roadtrip."

Now to be clear, I'm not imploring anyone to do stupid or risky things...but what I am saying, is that the sooner we make time count instead of counting time...we wil start seeing value in how we spend it.

So what?

What is the worst thing that could happen to you right now? I imagine your head is full of colourful and creative things of the most aweful things that could happen, and granted if they did happen it would be terrible...but what if they didn't?

Most of the stuff that we worry about never happen...so why worry? And so what if people think you are weird if you wear sandles with socks? Granted, wearing socks with sandles is a debate for another day.. the point is...I feel we need to ask "So What?" more often. Push your comfort levels in the name of fun, be silly when you get the chance and even be silly when you don't. Because if people like you because if it....so what? If people think you are weird...so what?

Goals and the pursuit of perfect.

Now you might ask, what if I have goals, if I have dreams? If I have so little time to pursue them, why waste it on 'making the days count' or 'saying so what'? Well, that's just the point.

I have read books on productivity, habits, diets and leadership and all have one thing in common. Baring the relentless pursuit of passion and settinf microscopic little goals on your wat to achieving the big ones...there is rest. In all of the literature on being successful, rest or time off is a constant. We can't be pushing all the time, sometimes, we just need to relax. In those off times, I often also get the best ideas to use in my graft times. Being silly or taking time to buy a coffee from the local container and chatting to the barista is crucial for our minds to be able to perform better.

Zoom in, zoom out.

This is not a post high achieving or even on being able to rest better...it's more about having the ability to intentionally zoom in on what you are busy with now...whether it's a report for corporate or an intense Monopoly game with friends. And then Zoom out...seing what the moon looks like tonight, feeling the cold air on your skin or tasting really good wine.

There will be time for hard work, time for climbing ladders and time for sliding doing water slides...make sure you make time experience all there is about this beautiful life.

Writing has been a love of mine since the start. With it, I try to make sense of the world around me and possibly reach some souls in need of the discoveries between the paragraphs. Enjoy the reading!
